India Gate

The India Gate is a war memorial commemorating the Indian dead of the First World War and the Afghan War. Underneath the 42-metre Gate, burning in a shrine is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, the Flame of the Immortal Warrior. Edwin Lutyen was in charge of the construction work, which lasted from 1921 to 1931, and the Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone.
